The purpose of music and singing is to rejoice in and worship the Lord. (Psalm 95:1-2).
OUR PURPOSE
St. Joseph the Worker music program offers our congregation the opportunity to expand the worship experience and grow spiritually through the gift of music. The Bible explains that every good gift comes from God (James 1:17). Music is one of God’s good gifts.
ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER CHOIRS
Our music ministry provides reflective, and/or joyful liturgical music that enriches and enhances the worship experience, provides leadership for the congregation in prayer through music, and invites and encourages the congregation’s participation.
St. Joseph Choir is an English-speaking choir for the Saturday Vigil Mass at 5:00pm service and the Sunday 8:30am and 10:30am morning Masses. The St. Joseph Choir is led by our Coordinators of Music Ministry, Laura Bissonette. Our Cantor is Angie Jauregui If you are interested in joining this choir, see Laura or Angie after a weekend Mass or email Laura ([email protected]).
THE HISPANIC GROUP: which leads our Sunday 1:00pm Mass. This Mass is said primarily in Spanish for our Hispanic Community. If you are interested and speak the language, please contact one of the choir members after the Mass.
THE ZOMI/MYANMAR CHOIR: which leads our Sunday 3:30pm Mass. This Mass includes music in the native language played and sung by member of the Zomi/Myanmar community. If you are interested, and speak the language, contact one of the choir members after the Mass.
The congregation is the primary music ensemble at every liturgy. However, if you feel the tug at your heart to do more, the music ministry is a great way to step up! There are a few requirements when thinking of joining the St. Joseph Music Ministry.
Commit to the time and service necessary to be a church music minister
Come to weekly rehearsals and masses
Have a good ear and sing and/or play on key
It’s a bonus if you read music but not necessary
If you play a musical instrument and would like to participate please contact Laura
If you can meet these requirements and want to join one of the choirs you are invited to talk with Laura Bissonette about becoming a music minister. We look forward to adding your talent to our musical diversity.
Contact either Music Co-Directors at 503-761-8710 x1304, or Laura Bissonette or [email protected] for availability and cost.
